Have a very merry 'Propology' Christmas

Put on your favourite Christmas soundtrack, get the mulled wine flowing and cosy up by the crackling fire. From a traditional Christmas to something slightly quirkier we can give you some ideas for it all! Have a look at our Christmas board on Pinterest to get some inspiration.

For us it’s the little things that make the difference. A beautiful homemade wreath on your front door can make the entrance to your home look so welcoming and be a reminder of all the gorgeous Christmas treats that are waiting inside! Coming through the front door  after a long day at work, there isn’t anything nicer than the sound of the voices to those dearest to you but combine that with the smells of spiced scented candles, mulled wine and the smell of a log fire burning away too, you couldn’t want for a better welcome. Sit your scented candles in glass jars nestled amongst lots of ivy, berries and pinecones to make them look gorgeous and Christmasy as well as filling your home with the amazing aroma.

Don’t forget the staircase…. being able to see the staircase draped with garland and anchored with bows will create a Christmas welcome in the hallway. You could even hang individual pinecones in-between each handrail for a simple, traditional yet effective look.

Planning your Christmas decorations to work with the décor in your home is one of our favourite things to do and it can look very stylish even if it means using unexpected colours like cream and beige. If your living room is full of neutral tones then putting accents of gold and silver onto your Christmas tree and filling the room with other pretty accessories in similar colours will look stunning for this festive season. Spraying pinecones, acorns and round glass ornaments in metallic colours and placing them in tall vases to use as a centrepiece for your coffee table will add a bit of a shimmer and are very easy Christmas accents. Making a switch from everyday to holiday can be so easy just by swapping your pillows and throws on the sofas. It’s an inexpensive way to change the room for the holidays. If you live near the beach you could make it a coastal Christmas by using turquoise and teal coloured cushions with pictures of snowflakes on them and use throws to make it that extra bit cosier.

What’s a fireplace without decorating the mantel and hanging stockings over it ready to be filled with lots of goodies? It wouldn’t be Christmas without them! Create a very rustic and country look on the mantel by using thin tree branches and birch bark shavings and then add in some red berries and frosted trees in varying heights to lend extra holiday touches to the natural looking arrangement. Of course this look wouldn’t be complete without the stockings. Having stockings that tie in with the colour scheme can look so pretty.

We all love to see brown paper packages tied up with string underneath the tree. Tie the Christmas look together this year by using a mix of materials for your gifts. Burlap and solid brown and white papers on the presents will be very in keeping for a room with neutral décor but they can also create a very rustic and country look underneath your tree. You could even finish them off with natural elements like wood tags to embellish the gifts for your family and friends.

When you’re all tired out from unwrapping all of the beautifully wrapped pressies prepare to sit down at a dining table that is filled with an abundance of decorations, candles, handmade napkin holders and all the rest. Starting off with a vivid focal point on your table it is easy to then add to the look and create something of a masterpiece. Crimson red poinsettias, a large candle surrounded by ivy or a vase filled with winter greenery can all make for a lovely centrepiece. Homemade always gives a nice rustic feel…how about napkin rings made with a sprig of rosemary and a cinnamon stick all tied together with some string? Not only will it smell of Christmas but it looks like it too! All that will be left to add to your table will be all of the delicious food.

After all of the excitement it’ll be about time to gather around the roaring fire or cosy up on the sofa and nestle in amongst all of the fluffy throws and cushions. Enjoy your Christmas your way but maybe this will give you a little inspiration to do some things the Propology way. “We are like a snowflake all different in our own beautiful way”. Happy holidays!
